Very fine Scottish basket hilt presentation sword.
Presented to Major McClure on his retirement from the 3rd Volunteer Battalion Kings Own Scottish Borderers, by the members and ex-members of the 1 Company as a token of their esteem and appreciation of his kindness, liberality and disinterestedness during his connection with the company, a period extending over 28 years. Lockerbie 3rd March 1893. The blade also stamped Samuel Brothers Outfitters 65 & 67 Ludgate Hill London EC. Blade length 32.5 inches. Condition - very good, retaining most of its original silver plating. Wire bound fish skin grip all complete. A great sword.
