Rare Maori Early 19th Century Carved Taiaha Kura Long Fighting Staff.

 

Very rare to find with the Upoko (head) adorned with a Tauri (collar) of Kaka (parrot) feathers and dog hair tassels. Hole drilled into the Rau, or blade, and loss to the end of the Arero (tongue), all as shown. A mixture of Paua shell and sealing wax eyes. A particularly large club, at 186cm long.

C.1800-1850 in date.
