Late 17th C. Hunting Sword Favoured by Naval Officers. Overall length 66.5cm. Originally a hunting sword these hangers were favoured by naval officers. Their short size made them easier to wield on the crowded deck of a man-o-war. A similar sword can be seen in Swords for Sea Service vol. II, by May & Annis, sword no. 226. Antler grip.
